The Orioles have reinstated pitcher Miguel Gonzalez from the paternity list and placed outfielder Steve Pearce on the 15-day disabled list with left wrist tendinitis.
The DL move is retroactive to yesterday, making Pearce eligible to return on July 5 in New York.
Pearce appeared in Wednesday's game in Detroit without an official at-bat, replacing Nick Markakis in right field in a 13-3 win. He's batting .235/.311/.383 with three homers and nine RBIs in 28 games.
Pearce had three hits in a June 9 game against the Rays at Tropicana Field.
The injury comes at a convenient time, with the Orioles needing to clear a spot for Gonzalez on the 25-man roster. They don't want to designate first baseman Travis Ishikawa for assignment.
Executive vice president Dan Duquette continues to explore trades for Ishikawa, who is 1-for-9 with five strikeouts since having his contract selected.
The Orioles are short a right-handed hitting outfielder. Pearce has been getting starts in left field against left-handed pitchers while Nolan Reimold remains on the disabled list.
Reimold is starting in left field tonight for Double-A Bowie. Hank Urrutia is serving as the designated hitter.
