Orioles sign Janish to minor league deal (updated with two more signings)

The Orioles have been negotiating with the agents for free agent infielders Paul Janish and Rey Navarro with the intent of signing both players. A club official has confirmed that they reached agreement today with Janish.

One down, one to go.

Janish signed a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training.

Janish, 32, hit a combined .268/.323/.359 this year in 113 games at Triple-A Colorado Springs and Triple-A Omaha.

Selected by the Reds in the fifth round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft out of Rice University, Janish is a career .214/.284/.288 hitter in 431 major league games with the Braves and Reds. He spent 2014 in the minors.

The Orioles already have signed infielders Ozzie Martinez and Derrik Gibson to minor league deals this week. Martinez and Gibson didn't receive invitations to spring training.

Update: The Orioles confirmed the signings of Janish and right-hander Terry Doyle and also announced the signing of outfielder Quincy Latimore to a minor league deal.

Latimore, 25, was a fourth-round pick of the Pirates in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. He played for Double-A Harrisburg in the Nationals' system this season, batting .277/.354/.432 with 10 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 41 RBIs in 108 games. He's a career .251/.314/.412 hitter in eight minor league seasons.

Latimore, a right-handed batter whose contract doesn't include a spring training invitation, had 31 doubles, two triples, 19 home runs and 100 RBIs in 134 games with Single-A Bradenton in 2010.

Doyle, 29, went 4-4 with a 5.93 ERA in eight starts at Double-A Birmingham of the White Sox's organization, 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA in five relief appearances at Double-A Mississippi and 4-4 with a 2.93 ERA in 23 games (seven starts) at Triple-A Gwinnett of the Braves' organization.

Doyle, selected by the White Sox out of Boston College in the 37th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, is 47-46 with a 3.47 ERA in seven minor league seasons. He pitched in the Red Sox's organization in 2013, splitting his season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket.
