The Orioles have signed 6-foot-11 pitcher Jon Rauch to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk.
He will report to the Tides on Monday.
Rauch, 34, was 1-2 with a 7.56 ERA in 15 relief appearances with the Miami Marlins this season, with 23 hits allowed, seven walks and 15 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings.
Rauch has played for eight major league teams, including Montreal/Washington, over parts of 11 seasons. He's 43-40 with a 3.90 ERA. He posted a 3.59 ERA in 73 games with the New York Mets in 2012.
Otherwise, there isn't much news to report today following manager Buck Showalter's daily session with the media.
Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen is pain-free today for the first time since straining his right oblique on May 12 in Minnesota and landing on the 15-day disabled list. Chen will start jogging on an underwater treadmill in a pool at the Ed Smith Stadium complex in Sarasota.
Backup catcher Chris Snyder will be behind the plate for Kevin Gausman's start Sunday against the Detroit Tigers at Camden Yards.
The change has nothing to do with Gausman's 11.00 ERA in his first two starts with Matt Wieters catching. The Orioles will be playing an early game following today's 4:05 p.m. start, and manager Buck Showalter wants to provide two days of rest for Wieters, which includes Monday's off day.
Dylan Bundy is still scheduled to be re-examined by Dr. James Andrews on Monday. The Orioles are hoping that he will be cleared to throw.
Taylor Teagarden will catch again tonight at Triple-A Norfolk in his second injury rehab game. He will serve as the designated hitter on Sunday and could be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.
"He did real well last night," Showalter said. "Four at-bats, no problems. Ronnie (Johnson) said he caught real well."
After checking the reports on Tsuyoshi Wada last night, Showalter said the left-hander "wasn't able to take it to the next level." Wada allowed four earned runs (six total) and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings to leave his ERA at 6.11 in four starts with Norfolk.
