Orioles back to American League rules

Breaking news for the Orioles: They get to use a designated hitter tonight. It's not as exciting as trading prospects for a hot pitcher, but there you go. Honestly, does anyone get a thrill from watching American League pitchers attempt to lay down a bunt? If so, you also must get a rush from staring at a dripping faucet. Nelson Cruz could serve as the DH tonight if David Lough gets the start in left field against Astros right-hander Brad Peacock, who's 1-4 with a 5.20 ERA this season. Cruz came out of Tuesday night's game in the ninth inning with tightness in his calf. That's not what tightens for opposing pitchers who have to face this guy. Cruz has 19 home runs. The Royals had 21 going into last night. Peacock has never faced the Orioles. Lough is 1-for-2 against him, which qualifies as a long look compared to the rest of his teammates. Right-handers hit .201 against Peacock in his major league career, compared to a .270 average for left-handers. Keep that in mind as manager Buck Showalter makes out his lineup. Ubaldo Jimenez is 4-0 with a 2.32 ERA and six quality starts in eight career outings against the Astros. He's 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA in five starts at Minute Maid Park. Jimenez has allowed 10 runs and 12 hits in his last two starts over nine innings, with six walks and 10 strikeouts. He's served up only one home run in his last six starts. The Orioles took two of three in Houston last season. I've got a 6:15 a.m. flight, which leaves me asking one question: Why did I book a 6:15 a.m. flight?
