LHP Alberto Castillo designated for assignment.
The Orioles today announced that they have selected the contract of RHP Jake Arrieta from Triple-A Norfolk. Arrieta will start tonight's game against the New York Yankees in his major league debut.
Arrieta, 24, was 6-2 with a 1.85 ERA (73.0IP, 15ER) in 12 games (11 starts) for the Tides. He struck out 64 and held opponents to a .189 average in those outings. Arrieta leads the International League in ERA, is tied for second in innings pitched, tied for third in wins and ranks sixth in strikeouts.
The Orioles' 5th round draft choice in the 2007 First Year Player Draft, Arrieta is 23-18 with a 2.89 ERA (336.2IP, 108ER) in 60 career minor league games.
Castillo, 34, went 1-0 with a 10.13 ERA (10.2IP, 12ER) in 14 games for the Orioles this season.
Arrieta will wear uniform #57.
