Ortiz homers off O'Day in 10th as Red Sox top Orioles
It was a rare sight at Camden Yards most of this season, but it happened tonight for the third time this month.
Darren O'Day gave up a home run.
David Ortiz hit a two-run shot to right off O'Day in the 10th inning to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 5-3 win over the Orioles tonight.
O'Day has given up just six homers on the season, but three have come over his last eight appearances. Ortiz connected after Xander Bogaerts reached on a one-out error by third baseman Kelly Johnson. It was his second homer of the night and 34th for the season.
The Orioles fall to 92-61 as their four-game winning streak ends. They are now 14-6 in extra-inning games. They lost for just the second time in the last 12 games.
The Red Sox got back-to-back homers from Ortiz and Yoenis Cespedes off Kevin Gausman in the fourth to claim a 2-1 lead that became 3-1 when Caleb Joseph was charged with an error in the fifth as a run scored on a play at the plate.
A Nelson Cruz RBI infield single scored Jonathan Schoop, who had singled, as the Orioles led 1-0 in the third. It was RBI No. 104 for Cruz.

A Steve Pearce hustle play forged the tie. Pearce hit a chopper to short and reached on an error by Xander Bogaerts as Young scored the tying run. Pearce dove low near the bag to avoid the tag at first and reach as the game was tied.
De Aza went 3-for-5 with two doubles and is batting .352 as an Oriole. Cruz went 3-for-5 with a double. Over his past 13 games, Cruz is batting .382 with six doubles, a triple, two homers and 11 RBIs.
Gausman came up two innings short in a bid to become the first O's starter with four straight seven-inning outings. He went five frames, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) on 91 pitches. He now has an ERA of 3.57 for the year and 2.73 over his past four starts.
The Orioles made three errors tonight for just the third time and they are 0-3 in those games.
The game drew a crowd of 39,079 as the Orioles moved to 2,383,129 for the season. That tops last season's attendance of 2,357,551.
