O's game blog: Dylan Bundy faces Tampa Bay

The Orioles were a strike away from a win last night, but they could not get that 27th out or that last strike to wrap up a victory. Tampa Bay tied it in the ninth against Brad Brach and won it in the 10th against Darren O'Day.

Today's scheduled start of 4:05 p.m. has been delayed by the threat of inclement weather with storms on the way. The tarp is on the field.

Update: We are underway at Camden Yards. After a rain delay of 1 hour and 12 minutes, first pitch was at 5:17 p.m.

The Rays' 6-4 win in 10 innings kept the Orioles from passing Tampa Bay for third in the American League East. At 42-40, the Rays are 1 1/2 games ahead of the Orioles at 39-40. The Orioles will hit the season's exact midpoint of 81 games after Sunday's series finale with the Rays.

The Orioles offense has produced just nine runs on 25 hits with two homers over the last four games. Last night's loss dropped the Orioles to 9-2 in extra-inning games.

Baltimore is 4-3 on the season against Tampa Bay and 2-2 at Oriole Park. Since the start of the 2016 season, the Orioles are 17-9 versus the Rays, including a 10-4 mark at home.
Joey Rickard hit his third home run last night and he doubled in the Orioles' first run. That was his third double in his last four games. He has hit safely in four of his last five games, batting .412 (7-for-17).

Bundy-Throws-White-Sidebar.jpgLast night, the Rays posted their fourth win of the season when trailing after eight innings, tying the Orioles, Dodgers and Cubs for most in the majors. Twice in the ninth inning, the Rays were one strike away from a loss. It was the Rays' fifth straight extra-inning victory, which is their longest streak since June-Aug. 2013.

On the mound this afternoon, O's right-hander Dylan Bundy (8-6, 3.73 ERA) faces Rays righty Jake Odorizzi (4-3, 4.00 ERA). Bundy leads the Orioles with 12 quality starts (no one else has more than five) and the club is 9-7 when he starts. In 10 starts versus AL East teams, Bundy is 6-3 with a 2.51 ERA.

A total of 1,101 home runs were hit in Major League Baseball's 408 games during June. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the total surpassed the previous record of 1,069 home runs hit during one month (405 games during May 2000). The average of 2.70 home runs per game during June also broke the previous record for home runs in a month. The previous mark of 2.64 homers per game was also set in May 2000.

Sedlock news: The Single-A Frederick Keys today placed right-hander Cody Sedlock on the seven-day disabled list with a right elbow flexor strain. The organization's first-round pick last June is 4-4 with 6.46 ERA. He got off to a great start, pitching to an ERA of 1.64 over his first four starts, but has allowed five runs or more in six of his past nine starts.
