P-Nats invite Will Ferrell to play all nine positions in a single game

Funnyman Will Ferrell has played a variety of roles - from his spot-on impressions on "Saturday Night Live" to news anchor and ladies man Ron Burgundy to former president George W. Bush in a one-man show.

Now the Single-A Potomac Nationals want Ferrell to play a new role.

Nine of them, to be exact.

Will Ferrell PNats.jpgWith Ferrell spending this afternoon playing all nine field positions and designated hitter while appearing for 10 different teams in five Cactus League games, the P-Nats have invited him to come to Woodbridge, Va., anytime he wants to play all nine positions for the same team in a single game at Pfitzner Stadium.

Ferrell's wacky tour of Arizona spring training camps is actually a well-intentioned ploy to raise cancer awareness and funds for Cancer for College and Stand Up 2 Cancer, but it's taking a lot of logistical maneuvering to make it happen. Think multiple uniforms, accommodating teams and helicopter travel.

It's Ferrell's homage to former major leaguer Bert Campaneris, who played all nine positions (there was no DH at the time) for the Kansas City A's in a major league game 50 years ago.

Always on the lookout for a good promotion, the P-Nats posted on their Facebook page this afternoon a plea to Ferrell to join their team.

"We think a return of Billy Ray 'Rojo' Johnson would look best in patriotic colors," the team wrote, referring to the time in 2010 that Ferrell donned a new uniform and persona, and pitched for the Triple-A Round Rock Express.

While we await Ferrell's answer, here's a reminder of that memorable baseball moment, which lasted exactly one pitch before Ferrell, er, Johnson was ejected:
