Post-game Notes: O's drop close one in Tigertown

Jeremy Guthrie had a strong outing in a losing cause Wednesday night. He allowed six hits and three runs over 7 1/3 as he falls to 7-11, 5.28. Two of the runs charged to Guthrie scored after he left the game. It was his 10th quality start of this season. The Orioles fall to 8-14 in his 22 starts. Guthrie allowed his AL-leading 27th homer, a solo shot by Magglio Ordonez in the fifth inning. Guthrie is now 3-6, 6.08 in 11 road starts. Not much action vs. Jackson - Detroit right-hander Edwin Jackson is 2-0, 1.13 in two starts vs. the Orioles this year. Tonight he gave up two runs and three hits over eight innings. He took a shutout to the ninth, then gave up a two-run homer to Adam Jones. On May 31st in Baltimore, Jackson pitched eight shutout innings of two-hit ball vs. the Birds. Despite the fact he entered with the second best ERA in the American League, Jackson won for the just the second time in his last ten starts. Jackson is 5-0, 1.87 in his last seven starts at Comerica Park. After the Orioles had scored 42 runs with a team average of .302 over the last seven games, tonight they were held to two runs on four hits. The O's went 4 for 31 at bat. Jonesy - Adam Jones went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer. It's his 19th of the year and he takes the team lead by one over Luke Scott. Jones has hit five homers over his last ten games and seven in his last 19. Jones, who has 12 RBI over his last ten games, tonight came up with his team-leading 39th multi-hit game. Aubrey Huff was 1 for 4 and is now 6 for 16 during a four-game batting streak. Nick Markakis had one hit to extend his hitting streak to eight games. During that streak, Markakis is batting .394 with a homer and 10 RBI. Brian Roberts was 0 for 3, snapping an eight-game batting streak. He had hit .371 during his streak. Gopher Balls - O's pitching has allowed at least one homer in eight of the last nine games and has given up a total of 16 in that time. Ten of the O's last 13 losses have been by one or two runs. The O's fall to 1-2 on this road trip, 17-36 in road games, 1-4 in August and 5-14 since the All-Star break.
