ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Orioles third baseman Manny Machado will fly back with the team tonight and undergo an MRI on his left knee Tuesday morning in Baltimore.
Machado had the knee X-rayed at Tropicana Field, but the film hasn't been read.
Machado was taken off the field on a stretcher in the seventh inning after his knee buckled and ankle turned as he hit the bag on an infield single. The Orioles don't want to speculate on the severity of the injury until the MRI.
Machado wasn't available for comment.
Alexi Casilla will remain here while the team flies back to Baltimore. He's already left the ballpark and is undergoing tests for a possible concussion after his head slammed into right fielder Nick Markakis' leg as they chased a shallow fly ball from Wil Myers in the seventh.
Casilla remained in the game until the inning ended, but he complained of dizziness in the dugout and was removed. Later, manager Buck Showalter said he wished that he had taken out Casilla right after the collision.
Markakis said Casilla's head slammed into his thigh, not his knee, which was fortunate. Markakis seems fine other than being concerned for his teammates.
Executive vice president Dan Duquette said the club won't add any players to the expanded roster. He pointed out that there are no infielders on the taxi squad in Sarasota.
More to come.
