Reimold, Valencia in tonight's lineup

Nolan Reimold is off the disabled list and starting in left field tonight in Chicago. Danny Valencia is the designated hitter, as manager Buck Showalter leans heavily to the right side against White Sox left-hander John Danks. Brian Roberts is starting at second base and batting ninth. The Orioles will attempt to move a season-high 12 games above .500. They've been 11 games over .500 twice this year (42-31 and 47-36). With a win tonight, Jason Hammel would break a five-way tie with Felix Hernandez, Bartolo Colon, Chris Tillman and Matt Moore for most road wins in the American League with six. The only other player to have 25 or more doubles and 30 or more homers before the All-Star break was Frank Thomas (27 doubles, 32 homers) in 1994. According to Elias, Davis is the first player in baseball history to have 30-plus homers and 25-plus doubles by the end of June. Davis hit 12 homers in June, his third consecutive month with at least nine. According to Elias, the last Oriole to hit at least nine homers in three straight months in one season was Rafael Palmeiro in 1998 (May-July). No Oriole has hit nine or more homers in four consecutive months. In 42 home games this year, Davis has 16 homers and the Miami Marlins have 17. The Orioles are 95-67 in their last 162 games. The Orioles are 45-53 at US Cellular Field, including a 6-2 record over the last two seasons. They've won seven of the last 10 games between the clubs overall dating back to Aug. 10, 2011. Chris Jones is starting tonight for Triple-A Norfolk, taking Jake Arrieta's spot in the rotation. Jake Pettit is listed as Wednesday's starter, with the next three games TBA. Previously, Jair Jurrjens was listed to start Thursday and Tsuyoshi Wada Friday. Future Hall of Famer Jim Thome has joined the White Sox as a special assistant to Rick Hahn. Thome expressed interest in playing this season after appearing in 28 games with the Orioles last summer, but he never latched on with another team. Quick take on today's trade: If nothing else, it shows that the front office believes this team is set up to do more than just contend. The Orioles needed to upgrade the rotation, and Feldman should be an improvement. Jake Arrieta was given plenty of chances and couldn't hold his spot, and Pedro Strop couldn't be trusted in tight situations and couldn't be optioned. He had to be removed from the bullpen, and his absence provides the Orioles with more flexibility and dependability. Nothing personal, of course. They're both great guys and I hope they find success in Chicago. It just wasn't happening here. I'm most impressed by how quickly Duquette acted in completing this trade, long before the July 31 non-waiver deadline. We'll soon find out how the Orioles made room for Feldman on the 25-man roster. They have an extra bench player after activating Reimold to take Strop's place. And does Kevin Gausman remain in the bullpen, enter the rotation or head to Norfolk?
