Report: Rendon promoted to Triple-A Syracuse (with Garcia update)

At Double-A Harrisburg, Anthony Rendon returned to the lineup after missing eight days while recovering from having his wisdom teeth removed. He went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts as the designated hitter. But the bigger news came after the game, where Geoff Morrow and Dave Sottile of PennLive.com wrote Rendon had been promoted to Triple-A Syracuse. Rendon was batting .319 in 33 games with six homers and 24 RBIs for Harrisburg. He also played eight games and hit .240 with the Nationals earlier this season due to an injury to third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. Having Rendon in Syracuse shows the Nationals believe he has shown he can hit at every level of the minors, and the team has a need at that spot. It was also give Rendon a chance to test his swing against Triple-A pitching and see where he stands. Meanwhile, right-hander Christian Garcia, pitching on a major league rehab assignment for the Nationals, entered in the ninth inning for the Senators to try to lock down a save. It did not go as planned, as Garcia allowed three hits, two runs and one earned run on 17 pitches. He was able to get out of the inning, but blew the save opportunity and Trenton went on to win the game over Harrisburg, 4-3. It was Garcia's first game of 2013 as he recovered from a partially torn tendon in his right forearm that had slowed him since spring training.
