Royals use early longballs to get 3-0 lead (with updates)

Chris Tillman has pitched well for the Orioles this year in just about every inning but the first. Now he's been scored on in the second as well. Tillman gave up a leadoff homer to Alex Gordon tonight on a 1-1 pitch as the Royals took the early 1-0 in the first at Camden Yards. Lorenzo Cain led off the second with a single and then scored on a Salvador Perez homer to give Kansas City a 3-0 lead. The game began after a rain delay of 3 hours, 9 minutes. First pitch was at 10:14 p.m. after a brief on-field ceremony for Eddie Murray, who had his statue unveiled here this afternoon. Tillman is making his seventh big league start of the year and he's now allowed 21 runs, with 14 coming in the first inning. His first-inning ERA this year was 9.53 and his ERA was 0.95 for the rest of the game. Gordon led off the game here Thursday with a homer and then the Royals went on to score four in the first. This was his fourth leadoff homer of the year and ninth of his career. The Orioles did not score in the last of the first when Matt Wieters flied out with two on and two out. Nate McLouth and Adam Jones had singled with two down. Here are the pitching matchups for the Boston series: Tuesday: Wei-Yin Chen (10-7, 3.79 ERA) vs. Josh Beckett (5-9, 4.97 ERA). Wednesday: Miguel Gonzalez (4-2, 3.42 ERA) vs. Aaron Cook (3-5, 4.70 ERA). Thursday: Tillman (tonight's starter) vs. Clay Buchholz (10-3, 4.24 ERA). Now 4-0: Billy Butler homered off the Orioles again and his solo shot to right-center gave the Royals a 4-0 lead in the third. Butler is now 12-for-30 this year with four homers and six RBIs vs. Baltimore pitching. Tillman had given up just two homers over his first six O's starts covering 34 innings and then in this game he gave up three in the first 2 2/3 innings. The O's will have to come from behind tonight. O's get on the board: The Orioles scored three times in the seventh to cut KC's lead to 7-3. Manny Machado had his first hit tonight, an RBI double. So Machado now has a double to go with his single, triple and two homers. Omar Quintanilla added a two-run single and is 8-for-17 with five RBIs over his past four games. Turnstile count: Tonight's attendance was 40,456. Of course, that is not how many is left now but tickets sold, as always. There was a very large crowd here earlier despite the rain. A good turnout for Murray.
