O's, Royals still waiting out rain delay (Game under way)

We have not been given a time for tonight's game to start at Camden Yards - if it does start. As of about 8:40 p.m. the rain had greatly subsided at the ballpark, but just a few moments later the skies opened up again. The tarp is still on the field. The Orioles held the ceremony to unveil the Eddie Murray statue earlier today but if they do plan to play tonight, it appears that the on-field ceremony for Murray would still take place before first pitch. Chris Tillman, who is 5-1 with a 2.38 ERA is the scheduled O's starter. He is 4-0 with an ERA of 2.88 over his last four starts and has allowed one earned run or none in four of his six O's starts in 2012. The Royals scheduled starter is right-hander Luis Mendoza, who is 5-8 with a 4.36 ERA. In five starts since the All-Star break, he is 2-3 with a 4.05 ERA. The Orioles begin play tonight tied with Detroit for both AL wild card spots at 61-52 and those clubs are just a half-game up on both Oakland and Tampa Bay at 60-52 with the Los Angeles Angels at 60-53. The AL East-leading Yankees beat Toronto this afternoon 5-2. The Orioles have won six of their last seven and nine of the last 12 games. They are 15-8 over the last 23 games. From the minors: Single-A Delmarva infielder Nicky Delmonico had arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday to repair cartilage. It will end his 2012 season, but the rehab time for the O's 2011 sixth-round pick should be just four to six weeks. He may take part in Orioles instructional league workouts that begin in mid-September. Delmonico hit .248 with 11 homers and 54 RBIs for the Shorebirds this year. Update: The Orioles have just announced that the game will begin at approximately 9:35 p.m. Set-up for Murray's pregame ceremony is taking place at this moment. Update II: Rain started again just after the tarp was removed. It's back on the field with the grounds crew standing next to it, waiting for the rain to stop. Could be a short wait, maybe not. Who knows? Strange night. Update III: It's 9:46 and the tarp is back off the field with the pregame ceremony set up in the center of the diamond. Looks like they're going to try to get Murray honored, but will they play baseball tonight? Stay tuned. The new start time is scheduled for 10:10 p.m.
