Showalter speaks after 2-2 tie

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Orioles had enough pitching to play the 10th inning today, but the Twins were running short due to split-squad games. They also were playing the Rays in Port Charlotte. Former Orioles farmhand Brandon Waring homered off Orioles left-hander Troy Patton with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to account for the 2-2 tie. Patton walked the leadoff hitter and got a double play. Patton has pitched twice for the Orioles this spring and allowed two home runs in two innings. David Lough had a 3 p.m. doctors appointment today after being scratched from the lineup with neck stiffness. He may undergo a concussion test. Lough hasn't felt right for the past few days, but he still wanted to play today. "I'm not sure what's going on with it," Showalter said. "He's told Brian (Ebel) about it and we decided not to take any chances with it. We decided to let him go on back and get it looked at so it's something that doesn't linger. "Way too early to talk about it, but I know he's dove a couple times in the outfield, he had that collision over in Fort Myers with the Red Sox. I don't know. "He wanted to play. He's not real happy about it." Alexi Casilla hyperextended his left knee after being hit while trying to turn a double play, according to Showalter. Earlier today, we also found out that Matt Wieters needs a few more days to reduce the swelling in his right ankle, and Nick Markakis has shoulder tendinitis. Nothing real serious here, but the nagging injuries are piling up. "All of those, they would have played during the season," Showalter said. "They had stuff like that all year last year that they played through. There's no reason to and have it turn into something else. None of those are acute things that we're worried about long-term. "Anxious to hear what they say about Casi and David, but I think during the season, they probably both would have played and it wouldn't have been a DL-type of thing." Henry Urrutia is fine after being hit in the head by a foul ball, which caromed off the fence in left field as he chased it. "It got him pretty sharp," Showalter said. Showalter will reveal his opening day starter Monday afternoon.
