Simon headed back to Dominican

I'll plug in quotes later, but I wanted to pass along a few items from manager Buck Showalter's pregame session with the media. Showalter will be in Bowie tomorrow morning to watch Alfredo Simon pitch. However, Simon won't make his scheduled start for Triple-A Norfolk on Monday because he's returning to the Dominican Republic. Simon was supposed to join the Tides for their game at Lehigh Valley, but he'll fly to the Dominican to take care of a matter that's related to his previous legal issues. Simon was jailed for almost two months while authorities investigated the shooting death of his cousin on New Years Day. Simon was granted bail and obtained his work visa, allowing him to return to the U.S. He worked out at the minor league complex in Sarasota before moving his rehab assignment to Bowie and making his first start for an affiliate on Tuesday. The Orioles are hoping that Simon can fly out of the Dominican on the same day, "but it's a moving target," Showalter said. "We'll see what the Dominican authorities allow." If he isn't detained, Simon could pitch on May 17 or 18. Showalter said he won't have to make any concessions for Luke Scott after an MRI taken on the outfielder's right shoulder yesterday revealed a tear in his labrum. It's a preexisting injury and hasn't kept Scott out of the lineup or restricted him to DH duty. Chris Tillman remains the scheduled starter tomorrow night, followed by Zach Britton on Thursday, Jeremy Guthrie on Friday at Tropicana Field and Brad Bergesen on Saturday.
