Source: Strasburg, Johnson won't be suspended for Atlanta incident

According to a Major League Baseball source, neither right-hander Stephen Strasburg nor manager Davey Johnson will be suspended for Saturday's incident in Atlanta during which the Nationals starting pitcher hit Justin Upton with a first-inning pitch and later threw behind Andrelton Simmons, earning ejections for both himself and Johnson. After Strasburg drilled Upton with a first-pitch fastball in the first inning, home plate umpire Marvin Hudson warned both benches that any further retaliations would result in automatic ejections. The plunking came after Strasburg surrendered a Jason Heyward home run. In the bottom of the second, Strasburg walked Jordan Schafer on four pitches and then threw three consecutive wild pitches with Simmons batting, the final two behind the Braves shortstop. After the third pitch to Simmons, Strasburg was immediately ejected by Hudson. By rule, because both benches had already been warned, Johnson was also tossed. Braves pitchers had hit the Nationals' Bryce Harper three times in the previous three games between the teams. The 97 mph pitch that hit Upton in the backside was viewed as retaliation for Braves pitchers throwing at Harper, and teammates greeted him in the dugout after the first inning with high fives and fist bumps.
