For the Orioles, this was another day when they fell behind early and were frustrated on offense.
The Birds lost, 4-2, at Cleveland this afternoon as they were swept in the three-game series and their losing streak reaches seven games.
The Orioles completed a winless road trip, going 0-5 in New York and Cleveland with one rain out.
Things have gotten so bad for the Orioles that Koji Uehara even issued a walk in the 8th inning. In fact, he walked two batters in the frame. That was the first time he issued a walk since last July 16 and he fanned 46 consecutive batters since that time. He still pitched a scoreless inning.
Cleveland improved to 11-4 with the sweep.
The Orioles, who fall to 6-8 on the year, have scored just 17 runs during the losing streak and have scored three runs or fewer now seven times in 2011. They are 1-6 in those games.
Cleveland took a 2-0 lead on Brad Bergesen with solo homers by Carlos Santana in the 2nd and Grady Sizemore in the 3rd. Bergesen gave up three runs, two earned, over five innings to take the loss. He is now 0-2 with an ERA of 3.38.
The Orioles' offensive frustrations continued in the fourth when Derrek Lee came up with runners on first and third and no one out. He hit into a double play which scored a run, but helped silence a rally against winning pitcher Fausto Carmona.
Nick Markakis hit into a double play with two on in the 6th and, an inning later, the Orioles scored just once when they had runners on second and third and none out.
The O's hit just .238 as a team this weekend, scoring only seven runs over three games.
Yes, it was a frustrating day.
The Orioles return home Monday night with another shot to end all the losing. They host Minnesota in Game 1 of a 10-game homestand. Chris Tillman (0-1, 7.30) is the O's scheduled starter and will pitch opposite Minnesota's Francisco Liriano (0-3, 9.42).
