The Orioles debut "The BUCKle up Birds" DVD

It was not a Hollywood premiere, but there was an orange carpet outside the Maryland Science Center's IMAX Theater last night. The Orioles debuted their 2012 season highlights DVD called, "The BUCKle Up Birds: An Underdog Story." They showed the DVD in a special screening for O's players, coaches and front office and staff, along with their families, club sponsors and some invited guests. The DVD, which was produced in-house by the award-winning Orioles Productions, includes both in-game footage and off-field interviews of key moments throughout the year, from dramatic wins to each of the six Orioles Legends statue unveilings. Additional bonus content includes footage from the Orioles' post-game wild card celebration. The video, voiced over by MASN's Orioles broadcaster Jim Hunter, runs 1 hour, 12 minutes. It begins with the Orioles' 2011 season-ending win over Boston and runs through the club's return to Camden Yards and the scene with hundreds of fans greeting the team at 1 a.m. after the Game 5 loss to New York in the American League Division Series. The DVD was shipped out yesterday to fans that preordered it. Click here to order the DVD for $25. After the showing of the DVD, a few Orioles spoke briefly to the crowd and executive vice president Dan Duquette talked about the 2012 season. "A key that really hit home with me was the Sept. 6 game," Duquette said. "We had all the legends there and Cal Ripken talking about the Oriole Way. Then we got off to a great start and gave up the lead, but our guys came back and we beat the Yankees. And it was in front of all Oriole fans, right? We didn't have any of the others in the ballpark. If I had to talk about one event, that was it. We had the Oriole Way and the new Oriole Way, which these gentlemen created here and I'm proud to be a part of it and we hope it's an annual event." Buck Showalter made a few comments also. "I think everyone knew I was a little embarrassed about the BUCKle Up thing, but it was a team up, it was a Baltimore up," he said. "There was a real sincerity about our guys. I had a feeling in spring training, there was a quiet want to there. It was a group where you want to get out of the way and not over-manage. Let them be who they are. The expression there is 'to be continued.' I got chill bumps watching all that and to have the seat I had last year was an honor. It was special for me."
