The Orioles win an amazing game in Boston

Well, that was just amazing and remarkable. In a game that took 17 innings and more than six hours, the Orioles beat the Red Sox 9-6. It ended with Chris Davis getting the win on the mound and because Adam Jones hit a three-run homer off outfielder Darnell McDonald, who pitched the top of the 17th for the Red Sox. It was won because the Orioles made a sensational relay play - Jones to J.J. Hardy to Matt Wieters - to the plate to cut down a potential winning run by Boston in the last of the 16th. Davis, who went 0-for-8 in the game at bat with five strikeouts, pitched two scoreless innings and in the last of the 17th struck out Adrian Gonzalez and then got losing pitcher McDonald to ground into a game-ending double play. Just remarkable stuff today at Fenway. The Orioles earlier had blown a 5-0 lead. So they blew a lead, used up their whole bullpen and still won. The win gives the Orioles their first three-game sweep at Fenway Park since June 10-12, 1994. It gives them a 19-9 record and a mark ten games over the .500 mark for the first time since June 25, 2005 when they were 42-32. It gives the Orioles a 5-1 road trip to New York and Boston in two places where they went a combined 5-13 last year and were a combined 19-53 the past four seasons. It gives them a road record of 11-5 on the year and a record against the AL East of 10-5. The Orioles have now won five in a row, seven of their last eight and 11 of the last 13 games. It was a game where earlier J.J. Hardy hit two homers and Robert Andino a three-run shot. Now the Orioles will come home exhausted but happy and we'll see if they have any pitchers left tomorrow to take on the Texas Rangers at Camden Yards. The Orioles showed some amazing heart today. The fun that is the 2012 season now heads back to Baltimore.
