The upcoming rotation and Gonzalez on being optioned

Orioles manager Buck Showalter set his rotation for the Yankees series that begins Monday night at Camden Yards. Bud Norris, Wei-Yin Chen and Chris Tillman will start for the Orioles. The Yankees will send Chris Capuano, Shane Greene and Esmil Rogers to the mound. Miguel Gonzalez will work three to five innings for Triple-A Norfolk Tuesday night in Buffalo. The Orioles want to keep him available, Showalter said, in case there's a "physical issue" that allows the Orioles to bring him back before the 10-day minimum period. Otherwise, Gonzalez is expected to start Aug. 19 against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Gonzalez stopped by the clubhouse this morning. He's going to meet up with the Tides on Monday. The Orioles optioned Gonzalez yesterday to make room for Ubaldo Jimenez on the 25-man roster. "They said they never had to do this before, everyone pitching well, and being in this situation it was tough for them to do this, but I'm one of the few guys that has options, so that's why I've got to go down there and make a start and see what happens after that," Gonzalez said. The Orioles discussed the possibility of recalling Gonzalez after Tuesday's outing. "I'm not worried about it," Gonzalez said. A playoff check would ease any hard feelings. "I'm excited for that," Gonzalez said. "I can't wait. I know we have a great team and we've been doing really good. We're chasing to go all the way, so I'm excited." The Orioles have made two difficult roster moves in the past week. They also had to option reliever Ryan Webb to make room for left-hander Andrew Miller. "We're stacked," Gonzalez said. "We have a good ballclub. You've got to take that and be like, 'Oh well.' You can't do anything about it. Everyone's pitching well, everyone's playing well. There's got to be a guy who's got to go down." Gonzalez didn't necessarily think he'd be the one. "Did I know if it was going to be me? No, but I pitched two or three days ago and I wasn't going to be available yesterday, so that's why they decided for me to go down and come back in a couple days, 10 days," Gonzalez said. "I'll be pitching in Buffalo and after that, we don't know exactly what's going to happen." At least he gets a free trip to Buffalo. "I've played in Buffalo," Gonzalez said, grinning. "It's not the greatest place to be, but it's just another field."
