Tillman extends impressive streak and O's hit three homers to beat Sox

Chris Tillman pitched a strong game after a shaky start. The Orioles hit three home runs. And order was restored at Camden Yards with the O's back in the win column. Adam Jones homered twice and Christian Walker hit the first of his career as the Orioles beat Boston 7-2 to improve to 93-61 with eight games left. The 93 wins matches the total of the 2012 Orioles. Tillman recorded his 20th straight start, allowing three earned runs or less. He ties Steve Barber for the second-longest streak in club history. Barber did that from Aug. 17, 1965 and June 4, 1966. Tillman went seven innings tonight, allowing five hits and two runs as he improves to 13-5 with an ERA of 3.26. David Ortiz hit a two-run shot in the first, but Tillman pitched shutout ball after that. Tillman is 7-3 with an ERA of 2.69 in 16 career starts versus the Red Sox. In this 20-start run, Tillman is 8-3 with an ERA of 2.21, allowing two earned runs or fewer 15 times. In 13 starts since the All-Star break, Tillman is 6-0 with a 2.06 ERA. The Orioles are 11-0 in Tillman's last 11 starts and 24-9 on the season. Also tonight, Tillman passed the 200-inning mark for the second season in a row and is at 201 1/3 innings. One night after getting a game off, Jones produced his sixth career multi-homer game and his second of the season. He hit two-run homers in the third and fifth innings. Jones homered twice on May 7 at Tampa Bay. He entered this game with just one homer over his past 26 games, but tonight connected for his 26th and 27th of the year. The four RBIs is one off his season-high. In the O's fourth, Walker delighted the big crowd by hitting his first career homer. Walker, who went 2-for-4, connected on a 1-2 slider off Boston starter Rubby De La Rosa. The Orioles added a second run that inning on Jonathan Schoop's suicide squeeze bunt. The Orioles are 48-11 when they have a multi-homer game and are now 25-0 when they hit three or more. The first homer tonight was the Orioles' 200th of the year as they have now hit 200 in three straight seasons for the first time in club history. The Orioles won for the 11th time in 13 games and are 20-6 over their last 26 games. They are 31-9 in their last 40 home games. Now 11-7 against Boston, the Orioles will try to win this series on Sunday when Miguel Gonzalez (9-8, 3.28 ERA) faces Joe Kelly (4-4, 4.28 ERA).
