Tonight's Nationals-Mets game postponed (updated with makeup information)

The Nationals have just announced that tonight's game between the Nats and Mets has been postponed due to inclement weather. No makeup date has been announced as of yet. The Mets make two more trips to D.C. this season - July 26-28 and August 30-September 1 - so there are plenty of options when it comes to makeup dates. The Nats could choose to push back Gio Gonzalez and have him start tomorrow and then have Nathan Karns start Saturday. That would allow them to not have to call-up a starter to get the ball Saturday, as they had originally planned. Update: The Nats will indeed push back Gonzalez and Karns, manager Davey Johnson said, meaning they won't need to call up a starter for Saturday. That means the weather has cost Ross Ohlendorf a chance to get back to the big leagues. This stinks for Ohlendorf, who has spent the entirety of this season at Triple-A Syracuse, but it's a plus for the Nats. It will allow them to get some rest and align their rotation favorably for the next week. "With the number of guys we have on the DL, this is a welcome call," Johnson said. "And then not having to add somebody else, another starter, and then we've got an off-day on Monday. So we would have just really made a bunch of guys move around. This is much better. So I'm happy about it." Gonzalez is set to pitch tomorrow (assuming there's a game tomorrow, with heavy rain in the forecast), Karns would start Saturday, Jordan Zimmermann would go Sunday, Dan Haren would go Tuesday against the Rockies, Gonzalez would go again Wednesday and then Ross Detwiler could potentially come off the DL and pitch Wednesday, if he's ready. The Nats' concern is that the rain could disrupt Detwiler's rehab start at high Single-A Potomac on Saturday, but they'll cross that bridge when they come to it. Update II: The Nationals and Mets will play a split doubleheader on Friday, July 26 with tonight's make-up game beginning at 1:35 p.m. The second regularly scheduled game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. The two games against the Mets on July 26 will require separate admission. Fans with game tickets to tonight's postponed contest may use their original tickets for the 1:35 p.m. make-up game on July 26. Those unable to attend the 1:35 p.m. game on July 26 can exchange their tickets for any remaining regular or value home game during the 2013 regular season.
