Top prospect Anthony Rendon promoted to Nationals

Nationals top prospect Anthony Rendon has been recalled from the Double-A Harrisburg Senators, and third baseman Ryan Zimmerman has been placed on disabled list, according to a tweet from the Nationals. The 22-year-old Rendon, a third baseman, is hitting .292 (14-for-48) with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs in 14 games with Harrisburg. He has continued to display his amazing hitting ability as the organization has worked him at a couple of different infield spots to help groom his versatility for the next level. With the unfortunate hamstring injury to Zimmerman, that time is now for Rendon. Rendon had his 2012 season cut short early on with an ankle injury. He was able to get back on the field late in the year, and then shined in instructional league and Arizona Fall League competition. Now the former Rice Owl gets a shot to show how well he can hit against major league competition and field his position. Manager Davey Johnson told reporters in Flushing, N.Y., that Rendon will start immediately. It will be an exciting time for the Nationals as they get to see Rendon, Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg on the same team at the same time as they get into the latter stages of the first month of the 2013 campaign.
