Travis Snider atones for miscue (O's lose 10-7)

Travis Snider let three runs score today on his error in the third inning, and he got them back with his home run in the fifth.

Have I mentioned that baseball is a funny game?

Snider drove a Drew Hutchison fastball over the fence in left-center field after Steve Pearce singled and Adam Jones was hit by a pitch, reducing the Blue Jays' lead to 8-7.

The error came when Snider misplayed Devon Travis' line drive in the third, just as it appeared that starter Chris Tillman would escape a bases-loaded jam. A fourth unearned run scored when Kevin Gausman let the inherited runner come home on Jose Reyes' single.

Snider is 7-for-18 with one double, one home run and six RBIs this season.

Brian Matusz retired all six batters he faced in only his second appearance. He issued back-to-back walks against the Rays, the second one forcing in a run.

Brad Brach replaced Matusz and retired the Jays in order in the seventh. He needs a good outing after allowing four runs and nine hits in three innings in his first three appearances.

Down on the farm, Zach Davies made his Triple-A debut with Norfolk and tossed five scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out eight.

Steve Clevenger, Henry Urrutia and Garabez Rosa have homered.

David Lough went 0-for-2 with an RBI at Single-A Frederick before coming out of the game.

Update: Brach retired the first five batters he faced before walking Dalton Pompey. Darren O'Day replaced him and served up a two-run homer to Jose Bautista, giving the Blue Jays a 10-7 lead.

Bautista is 5-for-15 with four homers and eight RBIs against O'Day.

Update II: The Orioles drop two of three games in the series with today's 10-7 loss to the Blue Jays before 32,522.

Ryan Flaherty drew a leadoff walk off Miguel Castro in the ninth and Alejandro De Aza singled with one out, but left fielder Kevin Pillar made another diving catch to rob Steve Pearce and followed up with a routine one on Chris Davis' fly ball.
