Jonathan Schoop hit a big homer tonight and then Adam Jones topped him.
Jones hit a tie-breaking three-run shot off Shawn Kelley as the Orioles beat the Yankees 5-3 at Camden Yards to sweep this rain-shortened, two-game series. A crowd of 37,687 roared on with its approval.
After Schoop tied the game 2-2 with a homer off Dellin Betances, Jones delivered on the first pitch from Kelley after a Nick Markakis single and walk to Chris Davis.
It was the latest big hit for Jones, who now has 23 homers and 75 RBIs.
For the Orioles, it was two swings, four runs and one stunning late rally to beat the Yankees.
The Orioles, who began the day leading the American LEague East by 6 1/2 games, improved to 8-3 against New York, 30-19 in the division and a season-high 19 games over .500 at 69-50.
Schoop has homered off some impressive pitchers this year, and tonight he added Betances to a list that includes Kyle Lohse, Francisco Rodriguez, Jeff Samardzija, Mark Buehrle and Masahiro Tanaka twice. Betances had given up just three homers in 68 2/3 innings before tonight.
Schoop has four homers and 11 RBIs against Yankees pitching this year to lead the O's in both categories.
Schoop's homer took Chris Tillman off the hook for a potential tough-luck loss. He gave up a two-run homer to No. 9 hitter Francisco Cervelli in the third as New York led 2-0. On the night, he gave up just five hits and the two runs, throwing 100 pitches.
Tillman has now allowed three or fewer earned runs for 13 consecutive starts with an ERA of 2.42 and 11 quality starts.
Darren O'Day, who pitched a scoreless eighth, got the win in relief and Zach Britton pitched the ninth, allowing one run for his 25th save in 28 chances.
After an off-day on Thursday, the Orioles begin a three-city, nine-game road trip in Cleveland on Friday night.
