Ubaldo Jimenez on his outing and other clubhouse quotes

Ubaldo Jimenez was not hurt by the home run ball very much last year. He gave up two homers in a game just three times in 32 starts, once against the Orioles. After the All-Star break last year he allowed just three homers total in 13 starts, covering 84 innings. But he gave up a pair of two-run homers tonight. David Ortiz and Mike Napoli hit the homers as Jimenez took the 6-2 loss against Boston in his Orioles debut. "The one to David, that was a good pitch and it seems like he was looking for that pitch and he hit it good," Jimenez said. "The one to Napoli, definitely I would like to have that back. Was 0-2, big mistake. I was trying to go away and I left it right down the middle. "Usually, I get the ball down. So I have to work on my bullpen to get ready for my next one. I have to pitch down. Most of the outs that I got, they were fly balls. I was pitching good, besides those two pitches. But like I say, I have to work on getting the ball down. Too many fly balls and I don't usually pitch that way." He gave up five hits and four runs over six innings, throwing 96 pitches. He now has an ERA of 10.47 in five career starts against Boston. "I wasn't nervous, I was very excited to be out there," Jimenez said. "You always want to win. But it's part of the game. I still have 30 more games to go and have to get ready for my next one." Catcher Matt Wieters talked about Jimenez's outing. "He threw the ball fine," Wieters said. "Had two pitches, the one to Ortiz wasn't even a bad pitch. Just something where he cheated a little bit on us. Give credit when he hit that pitch out. Napoli just got a ball middle. "Each time I get to catch him, I'm excited for it. Because it gives us a little bit better relationship and be able to keep working and get better. Ubaldo's great. He'll go out there and give you what he has, which I love as a catcher." The Orioles have scored just four runs total in these first two games. The team average is .194 with just 12 hits in 62 at-bats over the first two games. John Lackey went six innings to get the victory. "He threw strikes and located all night," Wieters said. "He was able to sort of cut the ball in and out. Seemed like we were down 0-2 before we could get a pitch over the middle of the plate to hit. "It's not going to get easier. Just have to make adjustments and when we start to see mistakes, put some good swings on some balls." Nelson Cruz had the only hit that produced any runs tonight for the Orioles. He hit a two-run homer to right in the fourth to tie the game 2-2. "Just tried to get something to drive in that situation," Cruz said. "He threw the ball pretty well. He was aggressive with his fastball. He tried to get ahead with that first pitch and late in the game he was mixing in all his pitches. We have a chance tomorrow to close out this series and win it." Cruz homered in back-to-back games for the first time since last on July 5-6 with Texas. He is the third Oriole in the last three years to homer in each of the team's first two games. Nick Markakis did that in 2012 and Chris Davis last season. David Lough said Lackey had sharp command tonight. "He hit the corners real well and pitched a good game. He was locating really, really well. He was on tonight and we kind of weren't offensively," Lough said. Wei-Yin Chen faces Felix Doubront tomorrow night in the third and final games of this season-opening series.
