Updates on Machado, Hardy and postponement

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado underwent an MRI on his right knee this afternoon, and team physician Dr. Michael Jacobs is headed to Camden Yards to read the results. "I haven't heard anything negative," said manager Buck Showalter. "Manny seems to be in good spirits. That's good. So, we'll see what the day brings. The examination was delayed due to "glitches in the MRI machines," Showalter said. It originally was scheduled for 10 a.m. "We finally found one that was working." Shortstop J.J. Hardy had an MRI on his sprained left thumb today and the club is waiting for the results. Hardy injured the thumb Saturday night while sliding into the plate and was scratched from Sunday's lineup. He didn't play last night. X-rays on the thumb were negative, but Hardy's condition hasn't improved and the club sent him for the MRI. As for today's postponement, the Orioles haven't announced a makeup date. Though various tweets from the New York media suggested a Sept. 12 doubleheader, Showalter left open the possibility of a makeup game on Thursday. The Yankees are sending Michael Pineda to the mound Wednesday night. The Orioles will start Chris Tillman or Wei-Yin Chen, depending on whether the teams must play on Thursday.
