Updates on Davis, Machado, Leyva and more

Chris Davis will report to the Sarasota complex on Tuesday while serving his 25-game suspension and will be available to play in fall instructional league games. Davis wouldn't be eligible to play for the Orioles again until their ninth postseason game. Manny Machado will join the Orioles on Sept. 29 and likely stay with the team for the first two games of the Division Series before heading down to Sarasota. machado-gray-swing-sidebar.jpgDoctors have suggested that he avoid flights during the playoffs while recovering from knee surgery, and the Orioles prefer that he continue rehabbing at the Ed Smith Stadium complex. Cuban pitcher Lazaro Leyva, 20, took his physical in Baltimore today and met manager Buck Showalter. He's going to join the instructional league roster. The Orioles signed Leyva earlier this month for a reported $725,000. Showalter said Nick Markakis is available tonight, but it makes sense to give his right shoulder another day to heal. Markakis was drilled behind the shoulder Tuesday night by a pitch from Toronto reliever Aaron Loup. "When you see the ball go straight down," Showalter said, "that's not a glancing blow." Showalter confirmed that Jimmy Paredes and Kelly Johnson both could make the Division Series roster while Davis serves his suspension. Davis' absence creates room for another infielder. Showalter said he's looking at potential matchups while deciding on his Division Series rotation. He needs to find out which team is serving as the opposition. The Orioles have eight scouts checking out various teams, including ones in the National League, according to Showalter. The Orioles will set their Division Series roster on Oct. 1, instead of waiting until the 10 a.m. deadline on the morning of Game 1. Showalter thinks it's unfair to players who won't make it to find out on the day of the opener. Here's a reminder of the events planned for tonight as the Orioles kick off their Fan Appreciation Celebration: 60th ANNIVERSARY MOSAIC PRINT The first 15,000 fans 15 and over will receive an Orioles 60th Anniversary Mosaic Print featuring photos submitted by fans throughout the year based on designated themes, including ballpark experiences, family, ballpark food, throwback photos and memorabilia as a part of the #OsInstaMemories. FANS TAKE THE FIELD FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM Nine fans will be randomly selected to take the field and stand with an Orioles player during the anthem. POSTGAME FIREWORKS Following the game, fans will enjoy the final fireworks display of the regular season. "In our locker room, every day is Fan Appreciation Day," Showalter said.
