Updating Hunter and Wieters throwing sessions

ARLINGTON, Texas - Orioles reliever Tommy Hunter threw 25 pitches in today's bullpen session at Globe Life Park and said he hasn't felt discomfort in his groin in four or five days. Catcher Matt Wieters made 30 throws from varying distances today, starting at 70 feet and moving past 90 for the last 10 tosses. He remains encouraged by how his elbow is responding. So far, so good. Hunter was in his typically playful mood with reporters, joking that he will need one or 10 rehab games before coming off the disabled list. "Ten sounds good," he said. "One sounds better." Two is most likely, but stay tuned. "Physically, I'm good," Hunter said. "Probably do some PFPs tomorrow, throw another side on Thursday. Probably face some hitters Thursday, maybe. I don't know what's really going on. But we'll go from there and see what's good. "Four days ago, I think, was the last time I felt it. Five days ago. That's pretty awesome. It's pretty cool not feeling it, because it sucks when you do." Hunter has been sidelined with groin injuries in the past, so he knows the recovery process. "It's the same treatment every time," he said. "There's really not much you can do for it, so it's really just rest, ice and hopefully it goes away. And it did. "There were some times on the fourth or fifth day that I had to stop because you can feel it. You know it's not right. Something's not right. Doing leg swings in the pool, you can feel it the first couple of days and then gradually it got better, it got better, it got better, and then you move on to towel drills and stretch it out. You go from the towel drills to the mound and then the mound to fielding your position. "I think we're going to do PFPs tomorrow, something like that, jumping off the mound and try to simulate a game. But it's kind of hard to do, simulate a major league baseball speed and tempo and stuff. Probably go and face some live hitters and get back in the swing of things. It's been a couple weeks since I've been on a mound." Wieters made 10 throws at 70 feet, 10 at 90 and 10 more at a greater distance. He'll throw again Thursday, rest the following day and perhaps increase the distance and number of throws on Saturday at Camden Yards. "Good. Better. More distance," Wieters said after his third throwing session. "We're trying to get to a point where we can really see where we're at. Each day I've thrown, I've gotten more strength and been able to do more throws before fatigue will set in. "We'll do this again. It's kind of do this one day, take a day off, do it again and then try to get further the day after that. So take tomorrow off and do similar to what we did today. Take a day off and then hopefully we'll do it more. "We're not looking beyond this week right now. We're looking at keep trying to get stronger, keep trying to get longer. When it's ready, it's ready. And we'll know when we get there. But right now, it's just about building strength." And staying encouraged. "Yeah," he said. "Anytime I feel like I can go further and feel better doing it is a good thing. Just going to keep trying to do that. The big thing at this point is to try to not have any setbacks and keep moving forward." The only soreness is the normal kind after being inactive. "It's building up strength around everything around it," he said. "It's going to come back each time you get that back, just because I haven't done it for a while, so it's just about getting to the point where everything is strong enough around it. But I've never gone through it before, so we're going to keep on going day by day."
