Updating Matt Hobgood and other minor league notes

Single-A Frederick right-hander Matt Hobgood is seeing a doctor today after leaving his relief outing last night with shoulder tightness and stiffness.

The Orioles' 2009 first-round draft pick came on to pitch in the sixth inning against Winston-Salem, gave up a single and then got a strikeout before leaving the game.

After pitching at a velocity between 92 and 95 mph most of this season, his fastball was only touching as high as 88 mph last night.

"He just felt some stiffness in his shoulder and the velocity wasn't very good and he came out of the game. He is going to see a doctor and we'll find out what the doctor's evaluation is and we'll go from there," Orioles director of player development Brian Graham said.

Each O's affiliate has their own doctors that report back to the O's team doctors, and Hobgood is expected to see the orthopedic specialist with the Keys.

Hobgood had shoulder surgery on April 2, 2012 and missed all of that season. This season for the Keys he is 2-1 with a 3.45 ERA for Frederick over seven outings. In 15 2/3 innings he gave up 13 hits with seven walks and 13 strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Double-A Bowie left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez is throwing live batting practice this week, which will likely lead to him pitching in extended spring training and/or simulated games in Florida. The Orioles' No. 3-ranked prospect according to Baseball America went on the Bowie disabled list April 21, retroactive to April 18, with a sprained knee. He will need to build up some innings in Florida before rejoining the Baysox rotation.

Bowie right-hander Zach Davies is expected to throw a light bullpen session today. The O's No. 11 prospect, Davies went on the DL on May 2, retroactive to April 30, with shoulder tendinitis. But he has been progressing well.

Bowie reliever Chris Petrini is still out with strained neck, but is making progress. He went on the DL on April 18.

Triple-A Norfolk outfielder Henry Urrutia went to see a doctor recently to check on an abdominal strain and the Orioles are awaiting the results. Urrutia went on the DL on May 1. In 20 games with the Tides, he is batting .220 with six doubles, no homers and seven RBIs.
