Updating the weather situation and starters in Boston

The tarp has been peeled back from the infield at Camden Yards and the sun is trying to peek through the clouds. Though it's NFL weather in Baltimore, the Orioles still could play the Rays tonight despite the ominous forecast that caused the team to consider making contingency plans in case of a postponement.

The Nationals already have postponed their game. Meanwhile, Orioles manager Buck Showalter just stepped out of the dugout to check the conditions at his ballpark and headed back to his office.

The hooded sweatshirt was a good call.

Of course, the Orioles will continue to monitor the weather and check the radar and updated forecasts, and figure out whether they can play the second game of their series against the Rays. They don't normally ignore these things and today is no exception.

A postponement wouldn't lead to a doubleheader on Sunday. The Rays are back in Baltimore for a three-game series June 24-26. They also return for a four-game series in September, but the teams wouldn't wait that long.

The Orioles will start Yovani Gallardo, Ubaldo Jimenez and Chris Tillman for their three-game series in Boston that begins Monday afternoon. The Red Sox are sending David Price, Clay Buchholz and Joe Kelly to the mound.

Since the beginning of the 2012 season, three current Orioles rank within the top 11 in the majors in home runs. Chris Davis is first with 161, Adam Jones is ninth with 121 and Pedro Alvarez is 11th with 111.
