Video: Checking in with Baseball America's Jim Callis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - He is one of the top experts in the nation on baseball prospects, and again this year at the Winter Meetings, I caught up with Jim Callis of Baseball America for a video interview to talk about some of the top young Orioles prospects. Callis feels the O's plan this year for pitcher Dylan Bundy was a good one as their No. 1 pick from 2011 started the season at Single-A Delmarva and ended it with two bullpen appearances in Baltimore in September. "They did what you are typically going to do with a guy taken that high in the draft who didn't pitch in pro ball because he signed late the year before. You're going to cap him at about 100 innings. I liked their plan," Callis said. "They started him at a lower level. We knew he was advanced, basically like a college pitcher with a high school guy's resume. I don't think anyone would have thought he'd be literally untouchable like he was (with Delmarva), but every time he kind of showed he mastered a level, they moved him up." Bundy, who went 9-3 with a 2.08 ERA at three minor league levels this year, was rated by Baseball America as the No. 1 prospect in baseball at the mid-point of last summer. When Baseball America next ranks the top 100 prospects in February, could Bundy be No. 1 again? "He could be. At Baseball America, we have about eight people that have input on that list. I don't know how everyone else will vote. Personally, I would put Jurickson Profar, the Rangers shortstop, No. 1 and I would put Bundy No. 2. He definitely has a shot (to be No. 1) and I'd be shocked if he was any lower than two," Callis said. Callis also talked about Kevin Gausman and you can check out the full interview here.
