Wada and game updates (Wada move official, O's lead 2-0)

Japanese left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada has agreed to accept being optioned to Triple-A Norfolk once his injury rehab assignment concludes this weekend. The final details are being ironed out. Wada has to give his consent, according to a clause in the two-year, $8.15 million contract that he signed on Dec. 14, 2011. Wada has made six starts with Norfolk, going 1-4 with an 8.14 ERA in 24 1/3 innings. The Tides are playing a doubleheader tonight, with Josh Stinson starting Game 1 and Jair Jurrens scheduled to start Game 2. Daniel McCutchen will start Saturday in a bullpen game. Stinson has allowed four runs (three earned) and seven hits in five innings. At Camden Yards, Manny Machado collected his 29th double in the first inning tonight, which leads the majors. It's his 93rd hit, which also leads the majors. Machado extended his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games. He was stranded after Nick Markakis and Adam Jones grounded out. Since having his contract selected from Double-A Bowie on Aug. 9, 2012, Machado played all 1,093 innings for the Orioles heading into tonight's game. According to Elias, it's the longest streak of consecutive innings in the American League and second in the majors behind Starlin Castro's 1,302. Machado's .978 fielding percentage over that time is the best in the league among third basemen. Chris Tillman walked David Ortiz with two outs in the top of the first. The Orioles didn't walk a batter in 13 innings last night. According to MLB, the last time that the Orioles played 13 or more innings without issuing a walk was April 21, 1983 in a 3-2, 14-inning win over the Rangers. Jim Palmer started that game. Tillman also walked Daniel Nava leading off the second inning. The Orioles have five walk-off wins this season, tying them for most in the American League with the Red Sox, the Athletics and the Indians. Nate McLouth lifted Chris Davis into the air after the first baseman's game-winning single last night, a little payback for last season, when Davis hoisted McLouth like a stuffed bear at a carnival. I asked McLouth how long he balanced Davis on his shoulder. "I started spasming up after about two seconds," McLouth said, "and I put him down." Update: Chris Davis led off the second inning with his 22nd home run to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead. Davis drove a 90 mph fastball into the seats in left field. The Orioles began the night tied for the major league lead with 89 homers. Tillman has walked three batters in three innings, one shy of his season high in his first start. But the Red Sox haven't scored. Tillman has walked at least one batter in 13 of his 14 starts. Update II: The Orioles scored again in the third on McLouth's one-out walk, Machado's infield hit and Jones' RBI single. Machado has 22 multi-hit games in his last 48 games. Tillman has walked four batters in four innings - twice putting the leadoff hitter on base - but he's still got a shutout. He's thrown 71 pitches, 43 for strikes. And now it's official: The Orioles reinstated Wada from the 60-day DL and optioned him to Norfolk.
