Williams on selection of Giolito and Turner to Futures Game

Two Nationals prospects - right-hander Lucas Giolito and shortstop Trea Turner - have been selected to play in the 2015 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which will be played at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 12 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

"I think it's a great opportunity for both of them to get a chance to be on a national stage and show their talent," said Nationals manager Matt Williams. "I think they are both very talented young players and they're improving quickly. It's good. It's good for the organization and it's good for them to be able to be a part of that and represent. It's good for both of them. We're happy for both of them."

The 22-year-old Turner, who finally joined the Nationals organization 10 days ago as the player to be named in the three-team trade that sent Stephen Souza Jr. to the Rays, is hitting .359 with four doubles, a triple and four stolen bases in four games with the Double-A Harrisburg Senators.

Turner was the 13th overall selection in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft by the San Diego Padres. He has hit .325 in career 137 minor league games.

"It was nice to get it out of the way," Turner told MASNsports.com after joining the Senators. "Now I can relax a little bit and just play the game."

The 20-year-old Giolito is considered by many outlets, including Baseball America and MLB.com, as the top pitching prospect in all of baseball. He was the 16th overall selection in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and has accumulated a 2-4 record with a 2.71 ERA in eight starts for the high Single-A Potomac Nationals.

Giolito has 57 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings, with 51 hits and 12 walks allowed. Giolito was the Nationals' 2014 Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2014 with a 10-2 record and 2.20 ERA in 20 starts for low Single-A Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League.

Note: Former Nationals right-hander Chien-Ming Wang has signed with the Southern Maryand Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League. He starts tonight.
