Jordan Zimmermann takes the mound this afternoon looking to rebound from his six-run outing in Monday's 8-7 win over the Phillies. The right-hander was tagged for two homers in the game, including a game-tying three-run shot in the sixth. Zimmermann has now surrendered 21 homers on the season, the most in his seven-year career.
Zimmermann is 7-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 17 starts at Nationals Park this year. Zimmermann, who becomes a free agent after the season, could be making one of his final home starts for the Nationals.
The Marlins counter with left-hander Brad Hand. The 25-year-old bring a 4-6 record with a 5.32 ERA into today's matchup. Lefty Justin Nicolino was scheduled to start this afternoon but was pushed back to tomorrow.
Tyler Moore makes just his 32nd start of the season today. Moore is batting .202 with four homers and 23 RBIs.
Jayson Werth has reached base safely in 27 straight games dating to August 21. During this streak, Werth is slashing .306/.405/.602 with eight home runs, eight doubles, 17 walks, 18 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
