Yoon makes first appearance (with video)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Korean pitcher Suk-min Yoon played catch for a few minutes this morning and ran sprints with strength and conditioning coach Joe Hogarty before ducking inside the weight room. Yoon is scheduled to throw in the bullpen on Wednesday. There are no bullpen sessions scheduled today. The workout will end earlier than usual, with Yoon's press conference taking place at noon. yoon-first-time-field.jpgYoon seemed quite comfortable with the media attention as he ran on one of the practice fields. Cameras and cell phones recorded his every movement and he smiled while walking back to the starting point. Ubaldo Jimenez is taking his physical today, as I noted earlier, and his signing could become official on Wednesday. He may recognize Miguel Gonzalez, who was a teammate in the 2007 Double-A All-Star Game in Arkansas. "It was pretty fun. The old stadium when I was with the Angels," Gonzalez said. "I can't wait to see him out there, so he can do what he knows how to do best. "He's quiet, kind of like me. He reminds me of me. I haven't seen him, having talked to him for a while, but I think he's pretty good. I like him. I'm pretty sure all of these guys will like him, as well." Asked what Jimenez brings to the rotation, Gonzalez replied, "It's always good to have a veteran like that who's been around for a little while. It's fun to have him with us. I know the way he goes about his business, so it's always great to have a guy like that." The signing of a veteran starter for the top of the rotation, and the late spending that's pushed the payroll near $100 million, sends a clear message. "They know what they're doing," Gonzalez said. "We've just got to keep doing our job and not worry about the rest. "There's always guys out there that are going to be welcomed here. It's really exciting to have them on our ballclub." Also, the Orioles still are waiting to find out whether outfielder Tyler Colvin accepts their minor league offer. He agreed to a major league deal last month, but the Orioles withdrew it after the physical. Colvin has been seeking another major league deal, but he can't find one. Update: A full video of Yoon's introductory press conference will appear on MASNsports.com later today. Here is video of Yoon running sprints:
