Zach Britton on his outing against the Angels
After he pitched the Orioles to a 6-2 win over Los Angeles, Zach Britton talked about his seven-inning outing where he gave up just three hits and one run.
"It's good. I know I'm capable of it," Britton said. "The last couple outings it just came down to fastball command. It was better tonight. Obviously it can still improve, but it allowed me to go deeper in the game. So I feel like I've had good stuff. It's about putting it together, and I'm starting to do that. "This is a good step. Like I said, I think I have some stuff I need to improve on; fastball command is going to be something I focus on these next two outings and going into the offseason. I think once I get that, everything else will come together." Britton fanned seven Angels to set a new career high. But he wasn't too impressed with that number. "I guess it just goes to show I don't strike out too many people. Yeah, it's nice to get that out of the way," he said. Britton improves to 10-10 with an ERA of 4.28. He becomes the fourth O's rookie pitcher with a 10-win season in the 2000s joining Rodrigo Lopez (15 in 2002), Daniel Cabrera (12 in 2004), and Brian Matusz (10 in 2010). Britton was asked about the Orioles' four-game win streak against contending teams in the Rays and Angels. "I think it more so just shows the type of people we are as a team," Britton said. "We could easily have just kind of thrown in the towel and we're not doing that. We know that these teams have something to play for and we are playing them hard. Like tonight, to go out there and put up a five spot in the first inning, that's huge. "Obviously, for me too. It let's you relax a little bit. But you could just kind of see it in their faces right there. Those guys are going for the hunt and then they give up five in the first and you could see the defeated look in them, just a little bit. But it feels good to take some games from teams in the hunt," he said. The Orioles have now been successful on 20 of their last 22 steal attempts. Vladimir Guerrero went 1-for-4 and is batting .435 (20-for-46) over his last 12 games with four doubles, a homer and seven multi-hit efforts. The Orioles on Sunday go for their sixth series sweep of the year.
