Zimmerman frustrated with latest shoulder setback

Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is clearly frustrated after his latest shoulder setback. Zimmerman was forced to leave Saturday's game at the end the fifth inning after experiencing right shoulder soreness. He felt it after committing a throwing error in the fourth inning, which led to the Braves scoring two runs. "It's just more sore than it usually it is," Zimmerman said at Nats Park prior to Sunday's game. "For the last how many years, I've played when it felt good and I played when it felt bad. Yesterday, it felt worse than normal. I just thought it was the right thing to tell Matt (Williams) and see what we got." The Nationals third baseman says he feels soreness in his shoulder when he is throwing over the top, rather than when he is throwing in a sideways or three-quarters motion. However, Zimmerman does not have any pain in his shoulder when he is at the plate. "It feels OK when I swing," Zimmerman said. "Through spring and last year and things like that, it felt good sometimes, it felt bad sometimes. But it never really felt like this, so I said something." A decision will not be made on whether Zimmerman will be placed on the 15-day disabled list until the Nationals receive the MRI results on his shoulder. Meanwhile, the Nationals placed outfielder Scott Hairston on the DL this morning with an oblique strain. Hairston suffered the injury during the last game of the Mets series in New York on Thursday. Hairston has experienced oblique strains in the past, but does not believe this is as serious as his previous injuries. "I've had it in the past, so I'm kind of familiar with the recovery and time it takes," Hairston said. "You wish you could play through it, but sometimes rest is the best thing." Hairston felt the strain last night and told the training staff. "At this point in the year with it being so early, it's best to rest than pushing it, then missing more time," Hairston said.
