Zimmerman-Ripken conversation featured at Dec. 4 event

Offseason baseball events have come a long way since the rubber chicken awards dinners of winters past. Mark your calendars now for Wednesday, Dec. 4 - that's the night when the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation will host "The Hot Corner: A Conversation of Baseball Greats" at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C. The event will feature an intimate conversation between Cal Ripken Jr., the longtime Orioles third baseman who was enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, and Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. The evening includes a cocktail reception, dinner and program with the legendary duo moderated by ESPN host Lindsay Czarniak. Proceeds from the event will support Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation programs, which helps build character and teach critical life lessons to underserved youth residing in America's most distressed communities through sports-themed programming. Zimmerman, of course, was the Nationals' first draft selection after moving from Montreal before the 2005 season. He's become a franchise cornerstone and his philanthropic efforts reach well beyond D.C. In 2006, Zimmerman founded the ziMS Foundation, which is idedicated to the treatment and ultimate cure of multiple sclerosis by funding comprehensive support and educational programs. This past year, the ziMS Foundation reached $1,000,000 in total donations towards finding a cure for MS. Ripken spent 21 seasons with the Orioles (1981-2001), where he was a 19-time All-Star, two-time American League Most Valuable Player, two-time Gold Glove award winner and 1983 World Series champion. Ripken is best known for breaking Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played with 2,632 and is one of only eight players in history to reach 400 home runs and 3,000 hits.
