No no-no for Lincecum

I was thinking it, you were thinking it. Tim Lincecum might not give up a hit today. Well, he did. Nick Markakis singled with two outs in the first inning to save the Orioles from that particular indignity. Luke Scott walked, and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. A single would have plated two runs. Let's not get carried away. Adam Jones flied to right, and the rally fizzled. But hey, Lincecum won't throw a no-hitter today. I was thinking it, you were thinking it. Aubrey Huff's...
With the official closing of the ESPN Zone in Baltimore, the schedule of O's events to take place there this summer has been canceled as well. The Baltimore Sun covered the restaurant's closing in an article you can read here. In the article you'll read that ESPN Zone's parent company, Walt Disney Co. made the decision to close five of the chain's seven locations recently, with Chicago, New York, Las Vegas and Washington D.C.'s locations meeting the same fate as the Inner Harbor...
Shortstop Mychal Givens, the Orioles second-round draft pick last June, underwent surgery on his left thumb last week and will miss the rest of this season. It was expected that Givens would be out several weeks due to the procedure. Now the plan is for him to begin some rehab around mid August and likely go to the O's instructional league workouts in September. The 20-year-old Givens was playing at extended spring training this year before being sent to the Delmarva Shorebirds. He got...

Jeremy Guthrie is 3-0 with a 2.06 ERA in five interleague road starts, while Tim Lincecum is 2-2 with a 4.28 ERA in six career home interleague starts. Of the four runs that the Orioles have totaled in Guthrie's last three starts, only two have scored while he's been in the game. The Orioles are 1-4 in series finales when they have a chance to claim the series win. Their lone success came May 13 against Seattle. The Orioles are 10-6 when holding opponents to seven hits or fewer. Nick...

For some players recently taken in the First-Year Player Draft, life can move pretty fast these days. They were drafted last week, signed quickly and now head to a strange town to meet new teammates and begin life as a pro in their new organizations. Of the nine 2010 draft picks on the Aberdeen IronBirds roster right now, Jeremy Nowak and Joe Oliveira are the highest drafted picks currently with the team. Nowak, a switch-hitting outfielder, was taken in Round 13 out of Division II Mount...
The Orioles and Giants have split the first two games of this series, and they're sending pitchers to the mound today with sub-4.00 ERAs. Here's one difference: Tim Lincecum is 6-2. Jeremy Guthrie is 3-7. Lincecum also has won the last two NL Cy Young Awards. That's worth mentioning, as well. Lincecum had allowed 17 runs in his last four starts covering 22 1/3 innings before holding Oakland to two runs over eight innings last week. Guthrie has allowed three runs or fewer in six of his...
When Jake Arrieta won his Major League debut on June 10 against the Yankees he became the latest pitching prospect to come up to the Orioles from the minors and enjoy instant success. But when he followed it up with a win in San Francisco to improve to (2-0), he broke a trend by winning his first two big league starts. Last season Brad Bergesen, Jason Berken, David Hernandez, Chris Tillman and Brian Matusz all made their major league debuts for the Orioles. Bergesen, Berken, Hernandez and...
