Felix Pie might not be in the lineup for the rest of this series because of soreness in his left shoulder. Pie felt the discomfort, which first surfaced in spring training, while making a throw to the plate during last night's 4-3 loss. He stayed in the game, but has been told to rest tonight and perhaps play catch tomorrow. "My shoulder's bothering me a little bit, so they're giving me off to see what happens tomorrow and see if I feel much better," he said. "I hope it's not too much...
...last night's walk-off loss was the first for the Orioles on Opening Day? According to Elias, the St. Louis Browns, who later moved to Baltimore, lost to Detroit in 13 innings in the 1914 opener. Kevin Millwood struck out five Rays in his Orioles debut last night, the highest total by one of the club's starters in the opener since Pat Hentgen totaled six on April 2, 2001 against Boston. Dave McNally holds the record with 13 against Cleveland on April 7, 1970. Brian Roberts was held...
Felix Pie was supposed to start the first two games of this series, but he's out of the lineup tonight. We'll find out why later. Pie appeared to tweak his back while swinging through a pitch last night, but he stayed in the game. Maybe it tightened on him this morning. Maybe manager Dave Trembley changed his mind. When was your first game? What do you remember? Was it magical? Maybe it wasn't your first game, but it's the first one you remember. Something stuck out -- a crazy play, a star performance or maybe just the color of the grass? As MASN continues to celebrate defining moments, Nats Buzz brings you a new weekly feature, "My First Game." It grew out of a piece I wrote for another publication about first baseball memories and I quickly realized (after an experiment on Twitter) that many...
Utility infielder Robert Andino cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles tried to work out a deal for Andino but couldn't find a trade partner. Concerns about his defense, especially at second base, led the Orioles to acquire Julio Lugo from the St. Louis Cardinals late in spring training. Andino has been told that he'll play shortstop at Norfolk, though the Orioles also have Blake Davis and Scott Moore. It's getting a little crowded down there.
When the First-Year Player Draft rolls around come June will the O's be in the market for a position player or another pitcher? Some wonder if, with a farm system stocked pretty well with pitching but some say short on position player talent, the O's will opt for the position player this time. The Orioles have the third pick in the draft following Washington and Pittsburgh. Andy MacPhail was a guest on the Scott Garceau show Tuesday on 105.7 FM the Fan in Baltimore, the O's flagship radio...
Though the skipper maintains a blog here at MASNsports.com which provides some insight about his day to day duties, there's still plenty more that you may be curious about from time to time. When does he fill out his line-up card? What meetings does he participate in each day? Tune in to Nats Xtra tonight at 6:30 p.m. as the crew goes behind the scenes with Jim through a typical day on the job. The cameras start rolling as soon as Riggleman arrives at the ballpark. GM Mike Rizzo is also...
Oh good, I found you. I got lost navigating through the new site. I really do need to take my GPS out of the box. I'll get the hang of it eventually, but I don't accept change very well. It's one of my many flaws. I'll be fine by tomorrow, but please be patient as I learn my way around my new digs and eventually discover that it's easier to maneuver. I'm just a little flustered at the moment. I appreciated how Mike Gonzalez kept his cool after last night's game. I know most fans...
The best approach a Minor League prospect can take is to work on his game, continue to improve, and put up numbers. Prospects get noticed by success and consistency. Brad Bergesen of the Bowie Baysox is doing exactly that, and he is pitching his way toward the Major Leagues. After beginning the season with Frederick, Bergesen was promoted to Bowie in April. The 22-year-old right hander has put together a breakthrough season for the Baysox, setting the Bowie franchise record for most wins...
There's nothing more entertaining than a well pitched Major League game, unless your team gets the big hit to upset the opponent's outing. And the Orioles have been getting more than their share of big hits. Did you know the O's have a team batting average .300 since the all star break? There are only 3 teams in the Major Leagues with a higher average since the break. The Rockies (.305), the Angels (.301), and the Mariners (.301), are the only teams with a higher batting average than...
