The Orioles have assigned pitcher Jake Arrieta to the minor league camp, reducing their spring training roster to 47 players.
Arrieta needs the innings, and they won't come in Grapefruit League games with the projected starters being stretched out.
Look for Arrieta to reappear in Triple-A Norfolk's rotation in April.
The right-hander allowed three earned runs (five total) and seven hits in five innings this spring, with four walks and nine strikeouts.
This place looks familiar. Is it...could it be...Sarasota?
I might drive around Ed Smith Stadium 172 times before parking my car, just so it feels like a road trip.
The Orioles are home for three straight games, beginning today against the New York Yankees. That means they'll be able to work on some fundamentals on the back fields, a luxury they didn't have because of all the recent travel.
The clubhouse won't be open to the media in the morning because the players have a union meeting....
The Orioles today announced that they have exercised their option for the 2010 season on the contract of MANAGER DAVE TREMBLEY.
This season is Trembley's 25th in professional baseball. He won two league titles and earned Manager of the Year awards in three leagues in 20 years managing in the minor leagues before joining the Orioles as bullpen coach and field coordinator in 2007. After spending most of the first 2 ½ months of that season as the club's bullpen and interim...

The Orioles today announced that they have hired JEFF DATZ as Major League Bench Coach.
Datz spent the past eight seasons on the Major League coaching staff for the Cleveland Indians, including four seasons as the Bench Coach.
The 2010 season will be Datz's 29th in professional baseball. After a nine-year career as a player, which included a Major League stint with the Detroit Tigers in 1989, Datz spent two years as a scout before beginning a coaching career that has spanned the last 17...
The Orioles today announced that they have outrighted RHPs ALFREDO SIMON (reinstated from 60-day DL) and BOB McCRORY and LHP RICH HILL (reinstated from 60-day DL) to Triple-A Norfolk after all three cleared waivers, removing them from the 40-man roster.
Simon, 28, went 0-1 with a 9.95 ERA (6.1IP, 7ER) in two starts for the Orioles. He left his second start on April 14 at Texas with discomfort in his right elbow. Simon was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 15 (transferred to the...
The Orioles today announced that they have claimed RHP ARMANDO GABINO off of waivers from the Minnesota Twins.
Gabino, 26, went 6-4 with three saves and a 2.94 ERA (98.0IP, 32ER) in 38 games (seven starts) with Triple-A Rochester in 2009. He is 22-19 with a 3.41 ERA (390.2IP, 148ER) in 192 career minor league games. Gabino appeared in two games for the Twins this season.
The Orioles currently have 34 players on their 40-man roster.
Earlier today, Rawlings announced that Orioles CF ADAM JONES is one of this year's American League Gold Glove Award recipients for defensive excellence in the outfield. The award, the first of Jones' career, culminates a season in which the 24-year-old was also named to his first All-Star team and set new career-highs in nine offensive categories, including average, hits, runs and RBI.
Jones is the 13th overall Oriole and the first since MIKE MUSSINA in 1999 to be named as a Gold Glove...
