Brown notches first career hit in style (Nats win 4-1)

Since making his major debut on Sept. 6 of last year, Corey Brown has had to wait quite a while for his first big league hit. I have a feeling the wait was worth it. Brown got in both the hit column and the home run column with one fourth-inning swing tonight, taking a Randy Wolf curveball out over the center field wall. The 26-year-old, who is only in the starting lineup tonight because Bryce Harper was a late scratch with a stomach virus, made his way around the bases and was greeted at the dugout with huge smiles and high fives. Cameras showed Brown still smiling later in the inning, minutes after his home run had left the yard. He'll enjoy that moment for quite some time. Brown got the Nationals on the board, and his former teammate at Triple-A, Tyler Moore, then gave the Nats a 3-0 lead. The Nationals are turning into Syracuse South. Moore touched Wolf for a two-run shot, notching his sixth homer of the season. Overall, the Nats recorded six hits off Wolf in the fourth inning, this after not having one hit through the first three frames. Update: Jordan Zimmermann went six innings and allowed one run? Wake me when something unusual happens. Zimmermann's dominant run continues, as he held the Brewers to a single run and just five hits over his six frames. The righty struck out six and lowers his ERA to 2.28. He leaves with a 4-1 lead and is in line for his eighth win of the season. Zimmermann hasn't lost since June 22. Update II: Three home runs, another stellar outing by Zimmermann and another win. The Nats beat the Brewers tonight 4-1. Their 100th game of the season is a positive one, as the Nationals improve to 60-40 on the season.
