Game 158 lineups: Nats vs. Marlins

Max Scherzer's quest for 300 strikeouts continues tonight in what is expected to be his second-to-last start of the season. The Nationals ace is currently sitting at 290, so he's got a chance to get there tonight with a strong outing against the Marlins.

Scherzer-Fires-White-Side-Sidebar.jpgIf he does it, Scherzer will become only the sixth pitcher to strike out 300 batters in a season since 1990. The others: Randy Johnson (six times), Curt Schilling (three times), Pedro Martinez (twice), Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sale. That's pretty good company.

This is Scherzer's fifth start this year against the Marlins, and somewhat surprisingly he hasn't piled up big strikeout numbers against them. His game-by-game totals to date: four, three, 11 and seven. We'll see if he can find a way to miss more bats tonight.

The Nationals lineup gets its first look tonight at Jeff Brigham, who makes his fourth career start. The 26-year-old right-hander is 0-3 with a 5.84 ERA.
