Game 47 lineups: Nats vs. Padres

The Nationals host the Padres this weekend, and they'll have someone else calling the shots from the dugout for all three games. Bench coach Chris Speier will be serving as manager while Dusty Baker attends his son's high school graduation in California. Speier will have some extra help in the dugout, with minor league field coordinator Jeff Garber added to the big league coaching staff for the weekend.

Baker-Maddux-Speier-Sidebar.jpgThe Nationals face a struggling Padres club, and perhaps with that in mind a pair of key regulars are getting the night off: Ryan Zimmerman and Daniel Murphy. Speier actually joked this afternoon that Zimmerman had suffered a wrist injury playing Wiffle ball with his daughter, while Murphy hurt his back. Funny guy. Funny guy.

Max Scherzer is on the mound, and it'll be interesting to see if Speier has to confront that moment when he needs to walk out to take the ball from his starter's hand. Scherzer has been known to bark a few choice words at managers when that situation arises.
