Hello from South Capitol Street, at long last. Yes, after a six-game road trip to begin the season - and then quite a disastrous commute into the city this morning - the Nationals are here and ready for their 2018 home opener. They come home having won four straight in Cincinnati and Atlanta before then dropping the final two games of the series against the Braves. And they now face the Mets, who perhaps will be their toughest challenge in the division this season, owners of a 4-1 record to begin their season.
All the healthy regulars are in the lineup today, including Adam Eaton, who will lead things off and certainly get a nice ovation when he steps to the plate for the first time. Stephen Strasburg, however, is batting eighth, marking the second time Davey Martinez has gone with this lineup configuration so far this year. Michael A. Taylor gets the No. 9 spot behind the pitcher.
Strasburg is coming off an impressive season debut in Cincinnati, and the Nats would really like another one of those today, considering they used up a lot of relievers the last two days in Atlanta. The good news: Brandon Kintzler, Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle all had the entire Braves series off, so they are fresh and ready to go.
