LOS ANGELES - The Nationals need a win tonight, plain and simple. They certainly don't want to leave the West Coast on a five-game losing streak before heading to Milwaukee for the weekend.
So they'll need a strong offensive performance against 19-year-old phenom Julio Urias, still seeking his first big league victory in his sixth try. The left-hander has electric stuff and hasn't been giving away free passes (he has 22 strikeouts and only three walks in his last three starts), but he also hasn't pitched past the fifth inning since joining the Dodgers, with the organization holding him to roughly an 85-pitch limit so far.
Seeking to get some better production in key RBI spots, Dusty Baker has flip-flopped Wilson Ramos and Ryan Zimmerman in his lineup. Ramos will hit fifth tonight, behind Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy, while Zimmerman drops to the No. 6 spot. Can't say that's a big surprise, given the way things have been going of late.
Joe Ross gets the ball from Baker, who is being honored tonight with a Dodgers bobblehead giveaway. That's pretty cool; how often do you see a promotional giveaway of an opposing player/manager?
