Game 92 lineups: Nats vs. Padres

There is one more game to play today, one more game for the Nationals before they are through a grueling stretch against the National League West's three contenders that has left their season on the brink. They've gone 2-11 against the Dodgers, Giants and Padres entering this series finale with San Diego. It's been pretty ugly.

But there's a chance to salvage one win now, with Max Scherzer on the mound for today's originally scheduled nine-inning game. Scherzer, of course, looked great for three innings against the Padres in his last start, only to implode during a disastrous fourth inning. Suffice it to say, the Nats need him to be better. Much, much better.

And they'll need to play a crisper, cleaner brand of baseball than we've seen the last 2 1/2 days, which have featured sloppy defense along with poor pitching both by starters and relievers.

Permitted to add a 27th player for what is treated like a doubleheader game for roster purposes, the Nationals have called up Andrew Stevenson from Triple-A Rochester. And he'll start in center field, with Victor Robles on the bench for this one. Josh Harrison also moves to third base, with Gerardo Parra in left field. And Tres Barrera gets the start behind the plate after Rene Rivera caught the first two games of the series.
