ATLANTA - The Nationals are attempting to pick themselves up off the mat after Friday night's crushing loss. But in order to do that, they'll need to take down the Braves' ace tonight.
Mike Soroka, the 21-year-old owner of a 10-1 record and 2.24 ERA, takes the mound at SunTrust Park. He hasn't take a loss since April 18 against the Diamondbacks. The Nats got a brief look at the right-hander last month in D.C., but you'll remember he had to depart after only two innings when he was hit by a pitch on his throwing arm. Soroka came right back and started again five nights later, so there were no residual effects of the injury.
The Nationals send AnÃbal Sánchez to the mound tonight, and you'll recall the veteran's 180-degree turnaround this season began right here against his former team. On May 29, Sánchez came off the injured list and carried a perfect game into the sixth inning. Since then he's 5-0 with a 2.47 ERA.
The Nats will need another big performance out of Sánchez tonight. And then quality work from their bullpen. Should be interesting.
